Raising it too fast will cause issue I guess

Raising it too fast will shock everything, raising too high will kill everything. In a tank your size, it is extremely easy to over dose as well.

Until my 180gal had a lot of large fast growing SPS colonies all I used was Kalk in the ATO and monthly additions of magnesium (a couple of scoops of ice melter and some Epsom salts...lol) and only because at that point I was doing minimal water changes.

I have a question with regards to the above "ice melter and Epsom salts" DIY magnesium supplement. Did you have any issues with the grade or does it matter that it is not pharmaceutical grade?

I use the magnesium from TSC stores mixed with Epson salt. Works really well.
Diy supplements are the way to go. My tank has been on ALL diy stuff for almost 1.5yrs now
