Macro Vs Bio Balls

From my understanding Cheto is great at no3 absorption good at po4
Mangrove is great at po4 absorption and ok with no3

you have to wipe the leaves,thats where they excrete salt and nutrients as mangroves actually use fresh water and extract the salt from it the expell it via the leaves

as off topic this has gotten,bio balls work excellent but require more nitrate managment,ie: water changes,refugium,pellets etc....
as far as i remember Big Al's still uses a trickle system with bio balls
