Just a quick update, about a year ago I finally made the switch from my beloved ATI Sunpower + ReefBrite hybrid combo. It served me incredibly well over the years and was hard to let go. Definitely a setup I’ll always appreciate.

I’ve officially transitioned to AquaIllumination 64HD Hydras.

I’m running 6 units mounted perpendicular on an HMS T-channel rail, along with a 66” AquaIllumination Glow Blade mounted to the same rail.

Overall, I’m very happy with the setup. There’s plenty of light (currently dialed back), SPS are growing without issue, and after about a year of stabilization, my LPS are actually responding even better than before.

It’s been a great transition.

That is awesome to hear! I tried t5 once, I went straight back to my leds. Is that video up top with t5s only?
Thanks- yes, mainly T5s, and a reefbrite XHO strip. I was hesitant to make th full switch because I had such good luck with my ATI fixture. I don’t think you can lose either way- both get results with different benefits.

Exactly. I think i've had mine for about 12 years and haven't replaced a ballast yet. I did replace a couple end caps though. i have a 10 bulb powermodule in the basement that i,ve replaced 3 ballasts on, and have thought of running it on the display but might just add a couple reefbrites to get that pop.

If I was being honest, I had the VERY best results with T5/MH. Heat and the bulb cost was the only reason I switched to LEDs.
LEDs were great for sps, BUT when I started, it was just me sticking LEDS onto a heat sink, so I had a lot of experimentation. Once the deep blues were available however, everything turned around. If I did it again, I'd likely want to add some T5s to the mix, even with the cost.

I'd also be a lot more careful with lighting and my eyes. Haven't had a single dry/burning eyeball since I moved. Take care with those wavelengths boys!

I do miss watching my little sps colonies grow.
