I am having a similar issue, and I noticed that I have large amphipods hanging around my zoa after lights off. I've been sucking them out with a turkey baster when I can.

I am not 100% certain, but I think the larger ones might/can eat zoas.

Could be one of the four things you're not testing for.

I do 15%water change every week with Reef crystal salt.. I have only 2small sps frags

I was having a similar problem with 2 different colonies of zoas, but only those two of many, the rest were fine. Someone mentioned possible chemical warfare so I tried adding some carbon and within a few days they all opened right up again.
