Personally id downsize your ATO, i only use a 5g pail on my 135g DT with 30g sump. Just incase something happens with your ATO and it doesnt stop, it wont throw everything out of whack. Just my 2 cents. The room you save you could maybe put a bigger sump in and make the fuge in your sump more effective.

Yeah i know just figured id throw that out there lol. A sump that small will be hard to do alot with. The reef octopus will be taking up a large area of the sump, then your return and whatever else you decide to run in there. Id attempt to go bigger. If it was me id go overflow into first chamber with liverock then baffles then a chamber with your skimmer and anyother miscellaneous equipment then baffles, fuge, baffles return area. Thats if space allowed. In a 36" tank itll be hard to put an effextive fuge in woth that beast of skimmer and all the other equipment. Another option would be adding another tabk beside it for your fuge and tee of your return with a gate or ball valve to go into your fuge tank and overflow back into your sump. Keep in mind the sump will need to be a bit higher than the sump.

Ideally the fuge is a separate tank or completely separated section so you can control the flow through. Not run the full flow through it. So adding another tank as the fuge will add some volume with no hassle....

In post #3 of my build thread. You'll see how I designed my sump. The right chamber is for my drain line, skimmer, filter sock, and reactors. Center is for my fuge, and the last one on the left is where my return pump sits.

I only use a mag 9 to power my DT (120g) and my frag tank(65g). My fuge is very productive. To the point were I can't get my No3 above 0 no matter how much I feed!!!

In the fuge I use a 6" DSB, Chaeto, 15 mangroves and about 30lbs of live rock.

In mine I have a section for the overflow, then into the socks/ skimmer, then the fuge (1/3 the 125 g sump) then a large 20g return section. All my equipment is external.

IMO this is one of the points so many people miss! If you want biological filtration to be truely effective you need to give it time to happen. Eric...Mag 9 for a 2 tank system. Darrylv also ran his system at around 500gph flow through. Too many people want to crank tons of flow through sumps...tons of flow belongs in the DT not in your sump/fuge.

I should clarify. It is a great sump and idea. I have a 3' and wish I had 4' as that design is great and 3' even with a small footprint skimmer makes it difficult to incorporate a decent fuge
