how do most of you feel about buying used live rocks and/or softies attached to live rock? Do you worry about unwanted critters, algae, etc being introduced into your tank?
Used live rock anywayYeah be very careful... if your getting live rock I'd dry it out and start over its better safe then sorry..
I'D be interested in buying some softies from you. .. what do ya havei'm not actually shopping for live rock but thinking of selling my system... my rocks are mostly covered with softies and it would be a shame to acid bath them but I wondered if theres any market for them and what to value them at. I would sell the rocks first.
As much as I like my tank I just find its something else that takes my time and some days I feel my time would be better spent on other things.
Not for sure yet, just considering it.![]()
Why do you want to kill it?Muriatic acid. Kill it all. Begin again.
There are way too many risks in using other people's rock "live". Here's a partial list
Majano anemone
Aptaisia
AEFW
Bubble algae
Gelidium
Nudibranch
Predatory crabs
Mantis shrimp
Predatory worms
Ich
Velvet
High PO4
Flatworms
Etc etc
Say it with me
Acid
Bath
That's a big decision to shut down your tank... certainly not a decision to be made lightly... good luckI appreciate the feed back from my post. I couldn't have had the success I've had with my tank without this group. allot of knowledge here that is invaluable. Water change night for example is something I sometimes procrastinate and dread or if I have an issue that requires a huge time investment then its those days that the tank is not fun, but I also like the challenge. I haven't decided as of yet if I am selling my system. At times I feel life is too busy with my business, family, etc and if I can simplify my life in small ways then I sometimes need to concider those options, but not ready to let go just yet...![]()
I was in the same position 5 years ago with my 55 gal fresh water tank. Self employed, kids, service clubs & volunteering, un-supportive wife. Sold everything to a friend of a friend. After 2 years missed it, after 3 years wanted it back, 4 years I started researching salt water, at 5 years I'm moving forward to salt water, full steam ahead. I think it gets in your blood, and... well... like everyone else sais,,,, We're addicted.I appreciate the feed back from my post.
