Frag tank w sump

I use a Rubbermaid brute garbage can.  No issues.  I side with reef freak on this one.  And cal is a good guy,  has a very nice healthy reef going.

Re: Frag tank w sump

im only going to admit this once.. plz know 'i told you so's ' as that will enrage me further..
i just spent the last hour cleaning up the glorious mess my f***ing 'repaired' tank decided to leave on my floor...

luckly, if you can call it that... i had a bad feeling and went and checked my tank and i caught it early (maybe 10-15 gallons on the floor)
i shut the system off and quickly pumped what was left in the tank into an empty 50gal barrel that was there (just got for water changes, thanks GOD!)

then i disconnected the tank, took it outside, ( i will wait til tmrw to smash it into sand)
but while i took it off the stand, i dropped one end of the plumbing, ( i didnt have it secured to the stand yet)
which then in turn, somehow loosened the bulk head on the frag tank, which started violently leaking...
and due to my glorious idea to use 1" plywood as a base,( and didnt drilling big enough holes) i couldnt tighten it...
so again, drained that into the 50gal barrel as well... which is almost full by now....
so a good 30 min on my hands and knees sopping up salt water with towels..... SALT water... my moms gonna kill me :.(

i got it as dry as i could and then set the de-humidifyer right by it and went to bed...

FML.....

so, im now searching for a 30 gallon tank,
dimensions, 24'' long, by 12" wide, by 21" tall....
and someone to drill it...
and not crack it

again, no i told you so's... i have anger management issues....
(by the way the tanks are supposed to be therapy  :?
the ironic twist to that is just.... sickening.. )

Well that sucks big time!!!! Order one from Bill at IA. Just tell him the size of holes and where to put them. He will have the manufacturer drill the holes, and thus, provide a warranty. It is MUCH safer to do it this way and it's only a 30G so it is quite affordable. Another option is to look at an acrylic tank. You can drill holes to your hearts content without any real difficulties.

P.S.... I told you so.  ;D

I'm not willing to spend anymore on this stupid f**king thing....
So going with bill, while probably affordable, isn't really an option

Take a break for a while. This hobby can almost kill you with frustration sometimes. :?

I think that the deals you can find on used tanks can be irresistible, but more often than not, you come ahead by buying a new tank.

Sorry about all the trouble you are having with this.
If you were closer i would drill it for you too.  But it would cost more in gas for me to do it than the tank would be.
dont give up.  it will work out.

Re: Frag tank w sump

update... so i tightened the bulkheads on the frag tank, so it stopped leaking, and supported the pluming with galvaniced steel strapping... so thats all up and running again...

i could find any 48" t5 light fixtures yet so i took 45 min and whipped this one together... consists of a recycle 24" pc fixture, and a 250w mh pendant :)... IMO it looks like it will work just fine..

i moved some frags over from my 180

thats your yellow tang libbyn... just waiting for ya  ;)

you can see on the second photo where the 30gal tank was, ill upload another one, with it still running...

Re: Frag tank w sump

ok, so im finally moving forward...
despite delays the frag tank is rather full of frags,
candy cane and green apple monti, which are all forsale btw, contact if intereted...

I aquired today a 55gallon tank, 48x 13x 21....
much bigger than my orginial design called for so im going to have to upgrade the stand as well!...
the tank came drilled with an overflow (thank god, no more drilling/cracking etc etc :)
it is just a matter building the rest of the stand, and plumbing the tank it!!! I hope to hit it hard an possibly finish it tonight!
will post pics later on...
wish me luck!
