I have the marine pure spheres in my 20 gallon fusion. I put them in mesh bags so that I may pull them out and rinse if needed. I'm no expert but the couple pages I read on reef central didnt convince me that they are harmful or leech any great quantities of harmful substances. The real life proof most provided showed great results of reef ans corals that used the product.

I personally think that it would if anything create live rock from this synthetic substance. The area is massive and this kind of media has been used in the hobby for 20 plus years that I know.

They even produce a fake rock http://www.reefsupplies.ca/online-store/Marinepure-High-Performance-Biofilter-Media-Medium-ROCK.html

The gyro is limited to how you have your rock work and the units placement. I doubt it can do much when the wave/stream hits a rock barrier

I just wanted to mention it so he can keep an eye on things and knows that there is some question into its use as they have show to leach some Aluminum to levels that could be linked to levels that would affect Corals or Inverts. is where it becomes questionable. Its like the Phosguard yes it showed to leach Aluminum and there was a massive drop it sales of the product and reports of people`s tanks crashing. Now was that the small amount of Aluminum that was released or could it be maybe too much product was used and the Phosphates where removed to quickly. Its funny how when GFO is used and people have problems they say I used too much and dropped the Phosphate too quickly and for Phosguard its the Aluminum. It could not be the Iron that is released by the GFO that may cause the negative results that people experience. The Gyre well all I can say is watch some of the YouTube videos and look closely and compare. All I know is that I have used Jebao Power heads and Tunze Wave Box and neither could what the Gyre does. Corals love it and the Fish love it.
Anyhow Good Luck on the set up.

P.S I do use the Marine Pure Balls. I use them in my Canister Filter for the Planted Tank and I use them in my Sump from the first stage going into the refuge.

Thanks for link. I'll take a look.

Added a bit more sand tonight, going to be adding more still. Rock for aquascaping should be here by Wednesday.

You need to make sure your rock is sitting on the glass and not the sand or you will have issues with shifting and settling.
I have acrylic under sand that rock sits on. I have some sand around the one rock as powerhead kept shaking it around.

does look as tho you have good water movement at the top.. does the acrylic on the bottom do the same thing as egg crate..
I might be wrong but I think he meant the entire tank is made of acrylic and that that negates the issue of a rock breaking the bottom pane. Since acrylic isn't as brittle as glass

Tank is in fact 100% glass. Acrylic on bottom does exactly the same as egg crate minus the nitrate factory egg crate can cause by building gas pockets.
