Re: Dukes 80G Acrylic Tank

Nice pics! Looking fantastic, as usual 8)

It's weird, I find that some digi needs to be up high and others do fine at the bottom of the tank. A safe rule would be to keep it all up high, since I notice that they can all take lots of light.

Hows the watermelon chalice frag doing? Mine is holding on, but no significant colour improvements.

My frag also is holding on, no improvements in it yet either, I am spot feeding it with brs coral chilli so hopefully its going to come around.

Re: Dukes 80G Acrylic Tank

I added a few more frags I picked up from Bigshow the other day and took a few photos, some didn't turn out very well but heres a few of some that did.

Half the tank.

This isn't new but it seems to be encrusting on this tile pretty quickly. Seeing any growth makes me happy.. lol

This isn't new either, I picked it up at the frag swap and I think the initial decline in health has stopped and its turned around and looking better by the day.

I haven't noticed any positive or negative effects so far.. I have no test kits that can test either nitrate or phosphate low enough to get a reading so im only basing thing on the look of the tank(everything looks the same), im going to wait another week and add another 100ml or so to bring the total to 250ml of pellets. I started dosing Elos Omega Amino Acid daily and included feeding BRS Reef Chili 3x a week without any negative results also.

I have a phosphate checker reads ppb if you want when I get some new regiments we can check it out on your water and see what's up. Every picture you post up the tank keeps  looking better and better !!! Great stuff

Re: Dukes 80G Acrylic Tank

Thanks, I have some red sea cal/alk/mg tests coming and Petercar said hes going to lend me his arsenal of test kits, but if I cant figure them out that sounds like a plan, I think its starting to look better also, im still not totally sold on the leds now that ive seen Bigshows tank.. T5's do give a nice color, im thinking I might add a bunch of UV, Violet and just regular blue LEDS, and see if that evens it out a bit.

Did I say that?? lol, No Im really happy with the LEDS so far, adding some more probably isn't needed but the UV, and Purple addition will let me pull the single true actinic fluorescent bulb I have running, and really be 100% LED. I did a full line of tests yesterday heres what I got, I also have tests for other stuff like K and Fe and all the mirco elements but I figured I wouldn't bother with those unless someone suggests thats its useful as I have no plans to start dosing anything else but Elos Amino Acids. What concerns me is how low my N and P are, Im thinking of starting feeding reef chili in 3x the recommended amounts to start and might even start feeding the stuff daily. I noticed my bonsai frag is throw long thin feeder tenticles during the day also, is that a sign its starving or is that something common?

N03 - .75ppm - Red Sea
PO4-  .00ppm - Hanna, Red Sea
Cal - 375 - Red Sea
Alk - 7.3 - Red Sea , Hanna
Mg - 1440 - Red Sea

Heres my BS Aussie Milli under my leds.

How much reef chili are you adding during your feedings?

Based on your readings, it looks like your biopellets are working

I agree about the pellets working, im only running 150ml of them, now im thinking i might not bother bumping them up to the 250ml I had planned. The bottle says 1 spoonful for 20G iirc, I have been broadcast feeding the whole tank 4 spoonfuls every 3 days. the spoon it comes with is really really small, its the same sized one used for the powder reagents in test kits.

I have been using reef chili as well, and can notice huge improvements in coral coloration and PE. What I find is that it directly causes an algae bloom on my open rock work if I use too much. One of those small spoons 3 times a week is probably just right if your not seeing any  nuisance algae. If your not getting any algae then you can push it more. I would jus keep going slow like your doing.

The best advice I heard about pellets is to find the "sweet spot" between coral paleness and algae issues, then you know your finding the right nutrient balance.

Re: Dukes 80G Acrylic Tank

Not sure why I always say my tank is an 80Gallon tank, I believe that's because it was made in Canada is actually closer to 80 Canadian gallons.. its 48x18x24 so I think that's a standard 90G size right?

New Gold Torch, hard to get a proper photo of this one.. this photos not doing it justice tho that's for sure. Glows nice under the leds.
