Anyone have one and have good success? Thinking about going to Angie's tomorrow and buying one. I'm worried about my pod population bc I have a goby, a copperband and a wrasse all of which eat pods. Adding a fourth I'm worried he will starve. Pods are hard to find anymore, noone stocks em. I don't wanna run macro as I only had problems with cheato breaking apart getting everywhere. If anyone has advice lemme know.

I've got one, it's fairly small, but does well with a 6 line in a 125.  I have noticed that the wrasse picks on it pretty bad if it ventures out of its side of the tank, but there must be enough for him even in a small area.  I check at night and there are still a billion pods crawling all over the place.

i also have one, i've only had it a bit longer than a month but the key is to get a good healthy specimen to start.. most deaths happen from shipping stress.. i do keep cheato and calupera in my refugium and both my tank and sump are crawling with copepods.. the fish seems to be fattening up even more since i picked it up, im about to add another and keep a pair hopefully. ideally you would like to get them eating frozen foods.. from my research online it seems the best way to do this is in a smaller qt tank or in a breeders net in your DT. you'll need live brine to start... which might take a few days to weeks for the mandarin to eat those.. then you need to slowly introduce frozen brine with the live brine.. and slowly ween them off the live stuff over time. then once they eat frozen you can either go for pellets or just add them to your tank.

I really love the spotted manderins (actually have never owned a regular one) - I've kept them in tanks 90G up - had a spawning pair in my big tank.

Spotteds will eat frozen brine (and even try frozen mysis) based on my experience.

If your system can sustain enough pods for them to eat..they are by far my favorite fish to watch. I think they are like a hummingbird of the sea..they flap there fins at an insane speed and float around the rock work. I had my last one for over a year and he was big and fat...unfortunately he got to close to my mp40 one night and wasnt strong enough to pul himself free from the suction. Recently bought another..just a little guy dont see him as much but he cruises the rock for pods at night

Bought it today. Along with a baby pacific sailfish. Beautiful fish. Hiding right now. Anyone know where to get pods?

Could just be me, but I think a sailfish might get too big for your tank  ;D

Is that u ru? King tang? Lol. Ya I know about the Hawaii thing. Doesn't bother me. The mandarin eventually came out of hiding. This morning before work I went downstairs and shined a flashlight in the tank. I never knew I had so many little critters and pods. Puts my mind at ease a bit. Still wouldn't mind another bottle to help repopulate.

I am by no means an authority on this, but it is my understanding Hawaiin livestock will be available for at least another year...

Here is some info that I received about this...

Most of the Bills and resolutions will probably not even be heard by the first committee!  Only one bill which could lead to a closure is going to be heard at this point in time. It is not over but looking like we might have another year without legislation.  I just wanted to share this good news with all of you. Thanks for your time on this subject.  Anything changes I will update everyone.  Ron Tubbs

Subject: Good news but Hearings set!! IMPORTANT HEARING TIME!!!

HEARING DAY SET.    BUT NO NOTICE SENT OUT UNTIL FRIDAY!!!  GET YOUR TESTIMONY READY FOR SB2002 HEARING ON TUESDAY 2-7-12 1:15 PM

THE GOOD NEWS IS THAT ALL OTHER RESOLUTIONS AND OTHER BILLS TRYING TO SHUT DOWN AQUARIUM FISH MAY NOT BE HEARD.  IT WAS A FAR REACH FOR THE ECO GROUPS TO TRY AND SHUT US DOWN ANYWAY. EVERYONES INPUT HAS LEAD TO AN EARLY VICTORY BUT IT IS NOT OVER YET BUT LOOKING GOOD!

DANE FROM DELA CRUZ OFFICE TOLD ME THIS.  NOW THEY ARE NOT DEAD YET AND PRESSURE FROM OTHER SENATORS LIKE THE ONES PUSHING 2002 CAN STILL RESULT IN HEARINGS ON THESE BILLS.

THE BELOW TWO SENATORS ARE THE ONES PUSING FOR THE BILLS.  SB 2002 IS ALIVE AND VERY DANGEROUS AS COUNTY COUNCILS HAVE VOTED FOR A BAN IN THE PAST! IT COULD LEAD TO CLOSURES FOR THE HAWAII AQUARIUM FISHERMAN.

Really!? Ok tks will have to stop in. Btw, I put aside my differences and beliefs and actually bought fish from Dave there. Coral however is still expensive and more than I'll pay, but their fish are competitively priced. Thanks man. I'll stop in after work!
