Pending on size of tank dont have to big of a Ato container, incase something goes wrong. Like if a switch or sensor gets stuck and lets your ato go crazy and dumps 25gals of freshwater into a 75g tank(just an example). I only use a 5g bucket for my 75g, and before was only using a 3g.
That's great advice.

But what I do is use a 30gal ato reservoir full with a JBJ ato. I also added a float switch to my RKL at a slightly higher spot in my sump. If the jbj fails and dumps too much water into the sump. It triggers the second float switch and shuts the jbj off.

Also keep in mind if you leave it mixed in a container it tends to settle. Will need to be circulated or "stirred"
I used for a while and it tended to plug up ato lines.
And along with what Hark said, if you're dosing anything, you need to be monitoring and/or testing your levels.

Actually this stirred process has been disputed (adding more oxygen to the solution) I find suspending the pump about 10cm above the bottom works best. no need to stir.
