Likely an under rated resistor or transister....

It was. They admitted to it being a batch of bad resistors.  As for recalls, there is a long list on what makes a recal and there is rairly a recall when something only affects less then 1% of stock which is typical with any company (not justifying it as i think there should be a recall, just stating info).

They were offering to replace the faulty module (not just the resistor), the damaged casing and pay for shipping both ways from what i have found. I have also seen a few threads where they sent a replacement fixture while they repaired the module.

I called Bill and told him the news, he asked for some photos and links to other instances (he had never heard of this before which is understandable) It is also MACNA weekend so getting a hold of someone on Friday would be next to impossible (it is also long weekend in the states as well) So I am going to limp through the weekend with them and we will attempt contact on Monday. The lights still work, they just look bad. I don't keep them on all day either. I am just going to keep them on while I am at home, and if I leave the house for any reason they will be un plugged.

So far everything is reasonable, and we will go from there.

I'd think reasonable would be offering up temporary lights,  used or otherwise until the situation is resolved with the manufacturer, unless Bill isn't in London this weekend,  I would not risk having the lights on at all. It isn't worth the risk of fire

No one has complained of a fire, the damage had been limited too some dimming of the lights and cosmetic damage obviously. I feel confident that they can get me through the weekend.

Tony,

Although it may be against better judgements, I would say it is ok to run the lights under supervision....hope you get this mess figured out.

Insane.. If i can put my two cents in. AL SOL's are amazing.
I debated for weeks on the MaXspect or the AL Sol blue, and after talking with Bill he convinced me the AL sols were a better light of couse for more $$$$ My SPS are growing way more dense (tighter tips and more bulky) Im running at 100% both blue and white, the corals adjusted and Im getting the wireless controller, it has been the best investment for the tank by far. they dont heat up my tank and dont even heat up the bedroom enough to notice. just the 12" above the water allows me to access the tank way easier! I hope u find something to work for you! Good luck!

The parts shipped out on wednesday morning after maxspect verified all the details, parts arrived yesterday, I installed them into my fixtures and the lights are happy as can be again.

Bill got me everything I needed as fast as possible considering the holiday and the lights are back to normal.

Can't really complain here, there was an issue, it was addressed and responsibility was taken by the manufacturer and rectified in a timely manner.
