Re: My 90G Pile of Rocks

Well.. I'm not sure what is going on, it could be one of a many things.
All I know is that things have never looked better, with the exception of a few sps pieces dying off.

Params all seem in check.
I have been dipping to rule out any pests and so far, I don't see anything.

Maybe I should just keep my arms out of my tank. I'm wondering if it has to do with spa/pool chemicals. gasoline, and anything else washing off my hands and into my water column. My colours seem to be pretty good, PE is good, fish seem happy. :?

Also wondering if it has to do with overcrowding, shading, mushroom's invading my sticks! I dunno  :?

Gonna do my regular water change soon and hope this madness stops. Luckily I have frags from my other colonies, it's just losing my Hawkins that is pissing me off. :mad:

I know water from the hot tub can affect the tank, I did that once, just from being in the hot tub then messing with the tank an hour later...I thought all the sps was gong to croak but no RTN.

Absolutely!
Not sure about a standard 180 72x24x24  or ideally I would like 72x24-26high and 30 deep. I just would like something that would be easy to work in and maintain. That's why I am really liking my 90... decisions, decisions..

Re: My 90G Pile of Rocks

Also for a larger system, I will need a larger capacity skimmer.

While a really like my SWC-160 Cone, I don't think it would be able to keep up to the demands of a 180-220g.
I have debated figuring out a way of upgrading to a better pump, since it has a solid design and construction.

I am hoping that a gently used Skimz SM201 will do the job?
http://www.aquacave.com/SKIMZ-SM-201-Monzter-E-Series-In-Sump-Protein-Skimmer-P3238.aspx

Here are the specs.....

* Skimmer pump: 1 Skimz ES5000 needlewheel - MADE IN ITALY
* Power consumption: 20W
* Air intake: 960 l/h

Dimension:

* L 234mm (9.4") x W 234mm (9.4") x H 545mm (21.8")
* Skimmer body diameter (mm): 200mm (8")
* For Aquariums: 800 - 2,000 litres (214 - 533 gal.)

I think it will do the trick...
The New Skimz SM201 Protein Skimmer - day 5

I like..
- the power consumption of 20w
- compact in sump design
- air intake 960 l/h
- silent operation

I'm hoping it's not over rated and will actually perform to spec.

What do people think?

I hear you. I have been told by many with a 30 inch high tank that maintenance is a PIA and shouldn't go beyond 24 inches. I do know that if anything becomes a challenge for maintenance, it becomes a reason not to do it.

Yah, 30" High would be crazy and I have long gangley arms. 24" high is perfect. But I would have loved going wider. A 30" wide tank would be awesome. You have so much more flexibility in Aquascaping and getting a really nice 3D landscape.
