Re: My 90G Pile of Rocks

I run a skimz sm161, and if I had the choice I wouldn't buy another, local support was non existent and parts to fix the pump I had to deal directly with skimz in Singapore. They sent me 3 ceramic bushings for the pump.. I'm on number 2 and it's only been 6 months. Nice build on the plexiglass and design.. Just not a fan of the pumps myself. It also doesn't pull hard and thick for me.. This could be that it's oversized for my rank but I'm not sure. My tank is low nutrient tho so who knows.

I have a 220, 72x30x24.

It will be the last 30 tall aquarium I ever buy. Even on a chair I can barely reach the bottom.

Unless I hit the lottery, and then I will simply hire a midget and keep him on retainer to scuba dive into my tank and clean it from the inside.

Isn't that what kids are for?!?!  Far easier to obtain than winning the lottery  :p

Yes it is, he's giving advice on the skimmer choice Teebone has lines up with the skimz choice. If there's no local place to deal with when issues arise wi wouldn't bother buying if you have to deal with a place across the world.

I think so, I believe tee asked for opinions on skimz skimmers.. Not tank sizes.

Thanks guys!

Sorry about any confusion relating to multiple topics and questions going on within the same thread.

Looks like I have some good info to consider. Seems to be a consensus about tank height, so I will keep with a 24 inch height and look into a 30 inch depth.

That's too bad about your skimmer Duke. I have read about the impeller issues too. The seller of the sm201 has had the impeller replaced and he says it works excellent.

Maybe the lack of dark skimmate is due to the lack feeding, but I am pretty sure you feed your tank pretty heavy and you use biopellets

Re: My 90G Pile of Rocks

Could be lack of food, or maybe it's just too big for my tank, I replaced the impeller and along with that there's an updated bushing. After a few months the pump got extremely loud and I had to replace the new bushing with another new one.. Seeing as they sent me 3, I'm assuming they know about that issue too. All and all.. It's been going strong for 2 years, my rank is happy, so I guess they aren't all that bad

Tyler, want a perfect tank?
http://ontario.kijiji.ca/c-buy-and-sell-other-150-gallon-rimless-saltwater-aquarium-fish-tank-W0QQAdIdZ515504120
i would be all over this if i didnt have to redo my entire stand to make it fit.

Thanks for sharing this!
I really like it, but want a 6 footer for my next build.

Keep your eyes peeled for a 72 x30d x 24h
[/quote]Thats a custom sized aquarium that will probably be hard to find unles you have one made.

You can get 72"x30"x27" which is 300 gallons

Re: My 90G Pile of Rocks

Thinking about something like this...

72"long x 30"deep x 24"high

w72x30x24winternal.jpg

Just a couple questions..

Would a wave maker fit underneath a eurobraced top?

Also, what do you think is better.. A center over flow or two corners?

How many holes?

Thanks for your input.

Looks like my main DT ;)

I think I did 32 wide though.  (I went as wide as I could without upgrading to larger glass.

I also had mine made by Miracles.  (send my a PM if you want the price)

Cool! I will send you a PM.
Also, if you did it again, what would you do differently?
