Lol good try torx
Thanks :)

It is true. Think of all the work you guys do to procure corals just for someone to by a colony, frag it, make their money back and more, then grow it in their own tank and sell and make more. Basically took what you did and are making a profit without the headache of suppliers, customs, 2 am pickups at the airport.

And for the record, I think it's BS that jaebo ripped it off. I thought there were pat.pends on that thing? Not like the Chinese care about intellectual property rights though.

I believe they are already in trouble over patent infringement but since they based in a country that prides itself on stealing intellectual property I doubt anything will happen

Sorry read your post wrong, that actually doesn't bother me at all. The more people fragging and growing corals the better off the hobby will be. I am not running this business to get rich, cause we all know that won't happen, I do it cause I like the hobby and enjoy the challenge, plus every shipment is like xmas, I have xmas at leas twice a month :)

They did the same thing with circle pumps. They have been around for 20 years almost, they know what they are doing to get around PI.

Well as long as no one holds a monopoly on corals and saltwater fish. If there was just one company importing all the stuff then they would be able to set the prices just like the pharmaceutical guy.

Does that make it ok? a company spends X amount of resources (engineering, testing etc) to make a new product and then is undercut by another company that invested in none of the above ...Is that something to support?

I am not for or against them, just playing the devils advocate here.
It is not ripping it off if they change a particular part of the design. As long as they do that they have an original. Happens all the time think Apple/samsung

I think it will be a much easier sell than the WP series since the gyre has had a short and spotty track record.

On the other hand...I have a few WP 40's some Tunze's and a gyre. As cheap as the WP's are they are inconsistent with noise and vibration (I have 1 that is dead silent 2 less so) and two have had issues after a couple of years. The Tunzes are still both dead silent and trouble free after many years so really are cheaper in the long run.

IMO many aquarium products are being designed and supported (vertex skimmers) based on the likely valid assumption that most people will only be in the hobby for a few years tops so that's as long as the products need to last...Hit a price point and make them otherwise disposable.

First, China could give a rats ass about IP and patent infringement. They operate on a whole other set of rules. Ie. NONE.

Don't kid yourself, China is capable of making high quality products. That is when major manufacturers choose to manufacture there Many are reluctant because business is SO shady there, that it can find it's way to the knock off market. This is where "companies" like Jacod come in. Don't kid yourself. This isn't going to be anything of quality just with a cheaper price. They don't play by the same rules.

You can't compare them to drug companies, or software manufacturers. There is a TON of money that has to go into those products for YEARS to design and engineer, and then MARKET that product we all want so bad. So they get patents. Oh yeah, MORE money. To try to protect themselves from legitimate companies they will try to get patents on as many designs as they can so a simple work around for a competitor isn't possible. All this changes when someone just rips it off.

I find it ironic that very often (yes, this is more American than us here) that the very person who typically advocates knock off products, and justifies their application is the first one to cry about the economy and the state of the country.

I say all this and I have a Jacod pump for my SW mixing container. Smelled like burnt electronics right out of the box as most of that crap does, it's DC motor ramps up in an irregular pattern, the plug sparks every time I plug it in to the control box, and it's built cheap. It's also half the price of a Waveline.

Just dont' confuse Chinese legit manufacturing with basically underground production.

all i have to say if your against copyright infringment throw away your apple products they broke international patents as well so even the north american companies do it hell you could build the exact same thing but change blade angle a couple degrees and new patent.... personally nowadays patents are just a way to con money from people for their ideas after so many years its free game anyway. and most patents arent in production they wait for someone else to build the same thing so they can sue them and get a jump on the compyy before they even open.... theres way better power generators out there and alot more efficient ut murika owns the patents thanks to stealing them from tesla after he died and 100's of people have been jailed and sued beyond belief just to keep the coal and nuclear going.

Countries and companies only care about one thing these days and thats profit margins. There is no longer such thing as good honest fair buisness those good guys get pushed to under the rug by huge corporate advertising until they dissolve.

Visit wiki leaks about this big secret tpp deal and you will see we are about to become corporate slaves it literally gibes them the power to sue countries if they dont like the import terms. And with america in it you know if you dont pay they will just bomb you

Oh and about patents they are useless if you can prove you had proof of concept before someone applied for a patent then that patent does not apply to you so jebao prob had one designed before maxspect got a patent and just waited for someone else to release the new hype later on and they just clear the market ;)
