what skimmer are you running and just saying i had put bio pellets on my tank and within 2.5 months all it did was create GHA. i kno alot of guys are having success with pellets i have also seen some horror stories. TDB320REEF from michigan being one of them. Slow and steady wins the race

I run pellets 24/7.  Again, I can only go by what I'm doing here, and I do have HA in the tank (in the overflows only).  For me, I was really skeptical about pellets, but won't go without them now.

I run a Super Reef Octopus 3000 INT skimmer. This thing pulls the nastiest dark brown shit out of my tank every few days. It smells like dead hooker pussy.

another variable are your biopellets and aren't you also running prodobio too?

this can also have major consequences related to bioload balance...

I have stopped prodbio.

I run GFO, pellets, and Carbon. Nothing else other than my doser.
[/quote]I have heard that when you stop probidio that it can cause tank crashes.  Its kind of like a drug for the tank and you can't stop it cold turkey.

You should stop thinking about the things you did wrong and work towards the right things. The idea in your other thread would be your best bet. Maybe someone here with an established tank can try to rescue your remaining SPS. Then hit the reboot button. You have great equipment and the drive to be great in this hobby. You just jumped in too quickly. Reboot, let your tank mature for a bit, then slowly add things (SPS corals, dosing, reactors, etc) as needed to your tank.

Well that makes a lot of sense. Considering the timing REALLY lines up with me stopping prodbio.....

then may i suggest you don't start it again...

Shit, I guess I shouldn't have bought that 6 month supply 10 minutes ago online....

I liken it to my last physical 2 years ago.  They said "your cholesterol is high, we need you to go on lipitor."  So I go "oh wow, really...can't I just watch what I eat?"

"no, you need to start immediately, and you will have to be on it the rest of your life.  Oh, and it's really damaging to your liver so quit drinking."

So I flipped them the bird, started going to the gym, never went on the meds and I had a physical 2 weeks ago... cholesterol is just fine.  I figure if they CAN sell you something, they will.  What better for a product: "If you stop using it, your tank will die!!!!!"

Stopping drinking is akin to dying, no?

Pretty much out of the question, yes.    You know if it got me to go to the gym for the past two years, it was a big motivator lol.

If I bought a new tank could I transfer everything over to the new one and continue on? Or would it have to be from scratch again?

I think I want to go even bigger. 220 is looking small....

The 300 gallon wide looks like nice dimensions. 96 x30 x 25

Glass cages makes a nice 300 gallon long. I can get the entire setup for like 3500 bucks I bet. Looks wild. Dimensions would be amazing to play with too. 220 is gay cause it is so freaking tall. I hate working on this tank with a passion.

I would stick with what ya got. Focus on running and maintaining the tank you have now first. Just jumping into a bigger pool with a bigger tank, just add to the problem.

I would agree with dale. Don't add anything new, get on a strict schedule of maintenance. Observe the next few months. You haven't really found the real issue and swapping it all to a bigger tank just adds to problems your having.

I also agree with torx, you have a crazy drive for this hobby and jumped in to fast. Slow it down, read everything you possibly can especially if you want to keep sps.

300g +sump = 50g water change a week... and you will b back to this point a year from now... if u just let it sit with little to no media in your reactors and no doseing,, your tank will level/balance itself out and be self maintaining and nearly indestructible in less than 4 mos i bet.. have faith in the force... i have a hob skimmer and a 3rd of a cup of phosguard in a reactor on my 65 and thats it! and it runs very well..trust your system..
