What Should I Keep In My Sump?

its actually better to run fuge light 24/7. macro and mangroves only work when lights are on and alot of macro will spread its spores during lights out ;). they tell you opposite to stop ph swings but running 24/7 does the same thing.

my sump it comes down the overflow to the right where my algae scrubber used to be. through bio balls under a baffle passes through section with with skimmer and media reactor with carbon and my return pump. On the far left side i have a section for my fuge and mangroves separated by a peice of plexi with a 2" gap along the bottom that i filled with eggcrate to keep macro back. My return pump actually draws water out from the fuge opening and to controle flow my media reactor dumps its water into my fuge. It is by no means big but has massive absorbtion ability.

Ive never kept anything in my sump ever other than chaeto, mexican caulerpa, grape caulerpa and mangroves. Yes all at once. If you have alot of detritus in sump its usually means you need to add or change floss or a finer mesh sock

mangroves need the right spectrum to do really well and try only spraying every other day or every third day. i used to spray everyday and they never grew very much once i sprayed them less they did alot better. i also went to dollarama and bought a bulb for ceiling pot lights.

Get something along the lines of these they are macro growing beasts and cheap. Keep them about 1ft off water level because they do get warm and about 8" above mangroves to not dry out the leaves. Everyone ive told to get these bulbs has loved them so far :)

Ive tried a couple different brands of 50w par20 bulbs and all do the same. Dollarama has them usually just get the
one with a mogul base not the two prongs

wow, thanks.. I have 2 sun blasters running on them now and a fuge led light...stuff in the sump is growing like crazy and the leaves do look a bit dry...I was going to give up on mangroves... maybe I was killing them with kindness, how long do mangroves live in a captive area...

I have 6 mangroves with leaves doing pretty well in my AIO nano but I have so much stuff in the back compartment I have two in the display and couple of tomato clows are bumping them over every other day. Will be getting rid of those little buggers soon they are an inch each and digging and moving sand ( i mean they are great, for someone else)

Heath if you're losing ground on the mangroves and want to give up on them, I'd like to try them in my sump and see how they do under led?
