its actually better to run fuge light 24/7. macro and mangroves only work when lights are on and alot of macro will spread its spores during lights out
. they tell you opposite to stop ph swings but running 24/7 does the same thing.
my sump it comes down the overflow to the right where my algae scrubber used to be. through bio balls under a baffle passes through section with with skimmer and media reactor with carbon and my return pump. On the far left side i have a section for my fuge and mangroves separated by a peice of plexi with a 2" gap along the bottom that i filled with eggcrate to keep macro back. My return pump actually draws water out from the fuge opening and to controle flow my media reactor dumps its water into my fuge. It is by no means big but has massive absorbtion ability.
Ive never kept anything in my sump ever other than chaeto, mexican caulerpa, grape caulerpa and mangroves. Yes all at once. If you have alot of detritus in sump its usually means you need to add or change floss or a finer mesh sock
