Re: The beginnings...

Another note*
Your going to want to lose those glass tops.
Will turn your tank into a sauna and you will have a hard time keeping the temp down.

Re: The beginnings...

Pretty proud of my diligence..  I have the tank noise to an acceptable level.  You can't hear it over the TV,  and the hum of the Skimmer pump is loudest part..

What I did,  in case anyone has same issues.
1) drain below tank (under bulkhead) at 45 deg angle and entering water about an inch under water
2) replaced the 1" durso,  with a 1.25" durso.  Choked at the bulk head to 1"
3) adjusted the height of durso,  only 2" below tank water level.
4) drilled 2 vent holes on sides of durso cap,  so they are adjustable
5) and finally...  Played with the volume returning to the tank!

I am satisfied for now!
Time to dump the water and start making ro/di salt water!

Oh yeah,  picked up a 55gal plastic barrel for  $20, it's awesome

Re: The beginnings...

That same line can fill my sump,  empty my sump,  full my tank..  Perfect for water changes... And if course initial fill!  Should be ready to go live by Tuesday!

Re: The beginnings...

Could use some ideas again...

I will be removing the glass tops on my aquarium...
Any thoughts how to get the T5 light in the hood??

I can't use the brackets they supplied, cause they won't allow the wood canopy to be installed (this is a must)
I had the light just sitting on the glass tops, but this wouldn't work either way cause of heat (almost melted the lens)

Anybody have their 6 bulb T5 in their canopy???
I'm thinking a couple pieces of L angle aluminum or something, sitting from front to back with the light sitting on top??!!!

I dunno...

HELP!

Re: The beginnings...

Could u hang it from the to of the canopy. That would be the best option IMO

Re: The beginnings...

just screw in a 15" long 1/2" square stock stick, one one each side of the canopy and set the light on them. this is what i did, like 5 bucks at home depot for a big piece, just make sure to pre drill so you dont split them, or use finishing nails with glue or something, this way you can space your light as high as you can with just enough to make the light not visible.. imo with a short canopy like that youll want your lights as high as possible, mines the same way.

i never thought much about that, maybe the aluminum is better suited.. wood is ok for me, but i only have a 2 bulb retrofit and led lighting held up like this not a 6 bulb t5 light, i would think the standard cooling of the fixture would keep it cool enough to not matter much, No photos sorry, but its just like you thought with the aluminum.. but i just used wood.

Well done! You will have a nice view in the room. I really like your sump section. Looks very well organized. What did you used for lighting in the sump compartment? Maybe I missed this somewhere in the thread....

Re: The beginnings...

Boga,  no light in the sump yet,  the light you see there now is light from the DT  since I don't have the SSB in yet..
I intend to put LED light over my refugium,  and just something simple mounted for lighting the sump area

Re: The beginnings...

I think that's a little much.  You want it just slightly churning.  Look at the video on bulkreefsupply.  They give a good explanation as to how it should be tumbling.
