Well we inked a deal 2 days ago, moving out of Ontario. We're headed for literally the middle of the forest fires raging in BC.

Thing is, in an area that is sometimes evacuated for weeks/months at a time, a reef tank may not be the best idea, however, who knows as it's hard to get rid of that itch once you got it.

I probably should cut a whole lot of frags sometime soon, as I'm going to offer the tank and contents with the house, or disassemble if the new owners don't want it, so there may be some very serious deals coming up, as I'll just want to get a few bucks and make sure things go to good homes, etc.

But for now, I'll miss the scene

Heh, we've bought 50 acres on the literal top of a mountain up there, 4000ft, access is by goat path, literally. Water supply is "sketchy", there's 2 deep wells and a river on the property, but in socialist BC, you can't own the river, and if you want water out of it, you have to apply for a license...

Seriously, not the very best enviro for a reef, in fact, at 4000 ft it would likely be the "highest from sea" reef lol.
On the plus side, you guys can follow along the adventure...I don't usually (ever) mix online worlds, but this is a special occasion:

Tennessee was the final destination, and we may still buy a second place there (for when the socialists come), but the border/visa situation is basically nonexistent, and with more lockdowns planned for the future, we simply needed to go.

We're in the okanagen, there's no bugs, and because we're in the fire zones, there's no 'sheep' either. the climate change and all....
You'd be welcome to stop by, we're near Apex mountain, we bought the mountain one over from them, almost literally.



I do want to get a goat though, something that likes to ram people he doesn't know. I plan to call him "Rammy"

I doubt I'll abandon the forum, it's REALLY hard to let this hobby go, especially now that I know how to keep sps thriving...my next tank might focus on getting the most white-light colour out of sps instead of the best blues-florescent colours, who knows.

Oh and evidently I have to buy 2 goats, they're not happy without a herd of some sort, although that literally could just be a sales pitch. It turns out that my literal neighbour (4kms away) owns a goat farm and sells all sorts of goats lol.

Well tank is gone, shooter is the new salty reef keeper. I'm so happy it's in good hands, but I'll have to hang around to make sure he keeps up on it

It's a weird feeling not having a tank, I've had at least a saltwater tank around since I was in diapers. Everything I have researched about the lifestyle we are about to take on says that it's not a great environment for something as demanding as a reef tank, but at the same time I'll have about a million more minutes in the day, so who knows. Forest fires are the legit concern, one popped up 5km from this house 2 weeks ago. It was contained, but what a poignant reminder that it's not at all unforeseeable that I may be evacuated at some point in the next 30 years, and as we know a reef tank can't survive a month unattended, and since power outages are also a very real possibility, I don't want to have to run a generator 24/7 for a week or more just for a tank. Well we'll see. I'm going to talk to BC hydro about installing at least one big solar panel on the property, as we get sun year round, that might change my outlook if I know I have a very reliable electricity.

Well got packed, and arrived. Brutal drive with 2 upset dogs, but made it.

Should have done this years ago. It's insane. It's PITCH black, and absolutely silent. We're into winter already, had snow yesterday, melted off today.

Had to grab a new chainsaw, had a 4 hour powwow with seasoned loggers in the local honda dealer. argued huskys and stihl, ended up with a stihl monster saw because parts for the husky saws are hard to get.

Grabbed some fiskars splitting axes, as the house is heated by wood.

My driveway is about a kilometer, and 7 switchback turns. I get 7000 steps in by 8am just walking the dogs.

The main house is pretty comfy too. 6 bedroom, heated floors throughout including garage. Simply amazing how quickly this felt like home.

NO regrets on the move. Have no idea how these people lived here for 20 years and now are moving back to a city, but I wouldn't have gotten this otherwise. Just so much awesome. Honestly not sure if I would even have time to do a reef tank, there is just so much to do. tomorrow I'm hoping to pick up new rims and snow tires with studs (can't recall the last time we were allowed to use studded tires).
