Just make sure your return lines aren't too close to the side pane of the glass. I made that mistake and now can't properly place a Wavebox in the back corner of my tank. 

Also, Starphyre glass is awesome and very crisp, bluer and clear, however, it scratches very easily! No scrapers can be used at all. Just mag floats, etc. so just a heads up on glass selection.

My tank is starphire and I had initially put some scratches on the tank with a tiger-shark mag float.  I changed to a scraper with steel blade and I haven't scratched the tank since.  Scrapers are great and IMO easier to use, its the magnets I worry about, one piece of sand between the magfloat and the glass and your glass is toast.

Nothing really, I like the depth at 24, but I wish I had 8-10' and a 36" width....but, that is a whole new ball game and a tank that size skyrockets in price.

did you check with great lakes aquariums in the states. Thats where i got mine made.
Very happy with my tank. I did 48x30x22 High.  I love the depth (30)
I didnt do starfire. I was trying too keep costs down, and worried about any scratches after paying the extra.

Just a couple questions..

Would a wave maker fit underneath a eurobraced top?

Also, what do you think is better.. A center over flow or two corners?

How many holes?

This is not far off from what I would upgrade to.  72" long and 24" high.  Width as wide as possible... make it an external overflow, or even better a room dividing peninsula tank with the overflow at one end, even better!  :drool:

hands down the best way to have a tank IMO, im surprised that there isnt that more of that style of tank out there

Thanks for al your helpful suggestions guys! While I would really like a penninsula, finding a good spot for it to work would be a challenge. I agree its the way to go, if you have the space.


I'm thinking external overflow might be the way to go, drilled with three holes. I found an online pic.

mine s a external coast to coast from miracles.  looks like pic.  the returns are the same as in picture.  but my 3 holes in the coast to coast are spaced the same across the whole thing

So... Out of curiosity... if the intale fingers on a coast to coast got plugged.... would the tank just overflow all over the floor?  I know on the internals it would just start flowing over the tops before it hit the floor  ??

its hard to tell in that photo but i believe there is still space above the teeth and below the eurobrace so if they all got clogged the water would still flow out the back into the overflow without making a mess, my coast to coast has no teeth.. seems safer to me.. its quieter also.

If you have the extra space to accommodate the external overflow, without a doubt it is the way to go.

Yeah, I think this one is too much cash-ola, considering I can get a new tank for about the same price. It does come with a stand, sump, and of course bio-balls!


I have heard from a few suppliers..

Miracles says they can build a custom 220g 72L x 30D x 24H

All edges machine polished
5/8" tempered bottom with 3 holes
Internal 3 sided rectangular black acrylic overflow centered on back panel
1/2" sides and ends
Eurobraced
$ 1595.00

External overflow will add approx $ 300-400.00 depending on design.
Starphire front add $ 180.00


Great Lakes won't do eurobracing or external overflows, so they might be out.


IA can get a custom 220g for close to the same price as Miracles with internal overflows.
They also have a standard reef-ready 180g 72x24x24 with two corner overflows for $729!

Looks like you have to pay if you want that extra 6 inch width with all the customized options for almost double the price

Takes up less than 1.5 inches in tank

Can handle 4000 GPH

The surface skimming is silent and the grate/teeth is held on by magnets. They pop off and can be submerged in a vinegar bath to be cleaned.

It works like a bean animal/herbie drain in that there are three pipes. The main drain will have a gate valve that will run full siphon. A secondary drain will have a small amount of water and will act as a full siphon if the first one gets clogged. The third is for emergency and can also act as a full siphon if your lazy but won't take care of the first two failures

I do need to get a quote from him, I stopped in there yesterday and say a pretty sweet looking acrylic sump being finalized. I would like to see your custom tank when its complete.

The Ghost overflow basically looks like an internal/external beananimal... I've seen a few implemenations of it before... but all via drilling bulkheads and gluing on acrylic or glass for the weir and overflow box.  This looks like a drop in product?  How does the water get from the inside of the weir to the box on the back - does it still require holes to be drilled or maybe it goes over the back of the tank?? Can't really make it out from the pics.

Pretty sleek and sexy overflow. Yes, there are 2 drilled holes in the tank from the actual over flow to feed the box in the back that you can see in the below photos. I like it.
